The list keeps up to five. Taking one off it never deletes a file.
The button at the top of the sidebar shows the Showspace you are in. Click it and the rest of them drop down. Click any name to switch. A tick marks the one you are in now, and each Showspace keeps its own colors.
The list keeps up to five Showspaces, most recent first. Open a sixth and the one you have not touched in longest drops off. That is not a limit on how many Showspaces you can have — only on how many the menu offers as shortcuts. Open Showspace… reaches any folder on your Mac, and whatever you open goes straight to the top of the list.
New Showspace… at the foot of the same menu makes one from scratch. Type a name, then choose the folder to put it in — the folder you pick is the parent, and the app creates a new folder with your name inside it. Picking ~/Documents gives you ~/Documents/Your Name, not the whole of Documents.
Open Showspace…, just above it, is the other half: that one takes a folder you already have, exactly as it is. See Your first Showspace.
To take one off the list yourself, click the × on the right of its row.
Removing a Showspace takes it off this list and does nothing else. The folder is not deleted. Not one file inside it is touched, moved or changed. All you are removing is the shortcut. Open the same folder again through Open Showspace… and it comes back, with its name, its colors and its pages exactly as you left them.
The Showspace you are currently in has no ×. Opening a Showspace is what puts it on the list, so removing the open one would put it back a moment later and the button would look broken.
